You’re probably thinking this outfit doesn’t feel very “New York City”, and you’d be right! This is a look I packed for Nantucket this weekend, but I wanted to get some good photos in it while shooting with my photographer last week in my neighborhood. If you read this Substack from a couple week’s back, you’ll know I’m feeling very inspired by primary colors at the moment… so when I spotted this set a few weeks back I knew I had to try it! I’ll admit it looked pretty boxy when I was pulling my order out of the package, so I was not confident I was going to like it on me. The dress itself is pretty shapeless, which is generally something I try to avoid – I personally prefer pieces that are more tailored and highlight my waistline. I think I’d dislike the dress if I were to wear it on its own, but it feels both playful and polished styled with the coordinating cardigan!
I actually ordered it before I’d booked my trip to Nantucket, only having it in mind for my upcoming annual trip to Carlsbad, California. It felt like the perfect dinner pairing for casual, beachy California nights! I tend to get chilly at night, so the cardigan is a very welcome accoutrement to the dress. Then when I planned Nantucket, I realized how on point it would be for my first visit to the island! The primary colored stripes are fresh and unexpected together, and frankly, kind of iconic? I added a spicy splash of red with this budget bag I scored at H&M and my Ben-Amun bangles. So fun! I’ll probably end up styling the set with this white clutch for dinner in Nantucket though. I plan to use the fringe bag for adding color to other looks on this trip!
