It is officially a silk scarf summer! Scarf styling has become such a hot trend in the past year or so, so it’s no surprise that this season’s silk scarves are better than ever as designers hope to capitalize off the movement. I love a scarf (I’ve enjoyed collecting Hermes cashmere scarves over the last several years!), but I’ll admit I was late to the silk scarf styling trend – one thing about me? Not a trend chaser. But I was intrigued by the effortless elegance and fresh splash of color that these printed silk scarves were adding to easy, everyday ‘fits. While I was tempted to try this look, I didn’t purposefully seek out a scarf just to do it. I figured if I came across the right one that spoke to me, that would be the sign to give it a go! And a couple months ago while perusing the new arrivals at Shopbop, I happened upon this Hermes silk scarf sourced by the designer resale brand, What Goes Around Comes Around. Normally Shopbop only carries WGACA’s bags, so not only was I surprised to see an Hermes scarf on their website (the only one, might I add), but the colors were SO me! It was priced pretty appropriately, so I took it as a sign I needed to try the trend for myself.
I knew immediately what piece I wanted to pair it with first… my favorite white shirtdress. I got this beauty last year and it has been so useful! Perfect for daytime events, a nice brunch/lunch with the ladies, and it’s easy to dress up for dinner too. While it’s obviously a wonderful blank canvas for all kinds of styling, what makes it uniquely perfect for this scarf tying method is the fitted Basque waist. There’s no bulky excess fabric you have to worry about and the scarf lies totally flat, creating a very flattering shape.
This past week I decided to order my first Hermes scarf ring as an elegant alternative to knotting the scarf for other arrangements and styling possibilities. I still need to try styling it as a head scarf, but I’m not confident I can pull that look off! What are some of your favorite ways to style a silk scarf?
