1. STYLE
The NYT’s list of the most stylish people of 2026 (so far) is out, and it’s a really fun scroll! There are 39-ish people on it, ranging from the Artemis astronauts to Jeopardy champions to New York Knicks fans. My personal highlights: Meryl Streep with her amazing Devil Wears Prada 2 press looks, Sarah Pidgeon and her ‘90s inspired minimalism, and Miyako Bellizzi, the costume designer from Marty Supreme (who I hadn’t heard of before but is very stylish). Worth a browse!
2. TRAVEL
Americans flock to French pharmacies, but have you ever thought about what foreign tourists are stocking up on at ours? Apparently the hottest souvenir tourists are bringing home from the US isn’t a beauty product at all — it’s melatonin! Didn’t see that coming! In the UK and Australia you can only get it by prescription, which makes our over-the-counter gummies feel like contraband to visitors. The piece also gets into other American pharmacy staples that tourists stock up on: Tide To Go pens (apparently massive in the UK), Crest 3D White Strips, and Advil!
3. FASHION
With the Fourth of July just behind us, this piece on 250 years of American fashion felt like a timely read! A fashion historian traces the trends that defined America – like bloomers as protest wear in the 1840s, the biker jacket popularized by Marlon Brando in the ’50s, power dressing and shoulder pads in the ’80s, and athleisure taking over everything in the 2000s. American style has always been less about elegance and more about culture. A worthwhile read for anyone captivated by fashion history!
4. INFLUENCERS
This piece from Allure has me thinking! In a survey of over 142,000 beauty shoppers, customer reviews narrowly edged out influencer videos as the top driver of purchasing decisions. But the more interesting finding is that it’s not really an either/or: the majority of people reading reviews are also watching creator videos, and vice versa! The two are working in tandem rather than competing. As someone on the creator side, that tracks IMO – influencer content tends to spark awareness and excitement, but a bunch of five-star reviews is what gives someone the confidence to finally pull the trigger!
5. BOOKS
If you’re in a reading rut, bookmark Time’s summer reading – there are so many good ones on here! A few that caught my eye: the new Ann Patchett everyone’s been talking about (Whistler), Maggie O’Farrell’s latest historical novel set on the Irish coast (Land), and Liane Moriarty’s sequel to Big Little Lies (!!!). If you’re looking for a buzzy beach read, The Shampoo Effect by Jenny Jackson sounds like the move. Might have to pick up one or two of these before my California trip!
6. NYC
Okay this story reads like a thriller… except it actually happened to a couple in Williamsburg! A mysterious neighbor shows up in the apartment next door, and soon after: dozens of prank calls a day, middle-of-the-night police wellness checks, an anonymous child abuse report to ACS! The couple starts connecting the dots and eventually discovers their neighbor is out on bail in a federal extortion case. Meanwhile they suspect their landlord (whose rent stabilization agreement is set to expire) has his own motivations for wanting them gone. It’s truly wild from start to finish, and a very NYC story that I hope never happens to me lol!
