1. HEALTH

I said I wasn’t afraid of aging in this personal post I shared last week, but maybe I should be more afraid of “frozen shoulder!” It’s becoming one of those health issues for women in their 40s and 50s that nobody warns you about. The condition causes intense shoulder pain and stiffness, sometimes to the point where women literally can’t lift their arms to get dressed or reach a shelf! Doctors are increasingly connecting it to perimenopause and fluctuating estrogen levels. Amy Poehler, Naomi Watts, Jenna Bush Hager, and Amanda Peet have all apparently dealt with it too. Just another reminder of how under-researched women’s health still is, especially when it comes to perimenopause and menopause symptoms that aren’t traditionally talked about!

2. NYC

Luxury office buildings are becoming one of the hottest new wedding venues in NYC! Rooftops and event spaces inside skyscrapers that were originally built for office tenants are now being transformed into ultra-design-forward wedding venues, with insane skyline views! Think: Champagne carts in elevators, hidden rooftop terraces, dramatic Manhattan backdrops, and entire lobbies being disguised so guests forget they’re technically inside an office tower! The article also points out that a lot of this stems from the post-pandemic office vacancy problem, with developers realizing these spaces can generate serious revenue after hours. Genius!

3. WELLNESS

Bedazzling is now being framed as a legitimate mental health tool! Repetitive, tactile hobbies (like gluing rhinestones onto books, phone cases, skincare bottles, etc.) can actually help regulate your nervous system and pull you into the present moment in a way scrolling definitely does not! Similar to Mahjong, needlepoint, gardening, and puzzles – analog hobbies are gaining popularity as people try to spend less time on their phones. I laughed at the point that bedazzling gives you “ongoing dopamine” because every time you look at the sparkly thing afterward you get another tiny hit of joy. Frankly, there are worse ways to cope!

4. COOKING

Every summer, I hit the same point where I buy fresh zucchini with the best intentions… and then immediately run out of ideas for what to do with it (lol). This article actually had some genuinely good ideas for how to make zucchini more interesting beyond the usual sad roasted rounds! A few ideas I bookmarked: keeping it raw in salads so it stays crisp, cooking it down into a jammy pasta sauce, grating it into pancakes and fritters, and pairing it with crunchy toppings so the texture feels more intentional. Yum!! I’d also love to recreate the salad we love at Qi in Austin – ribbons of raw zucchini tossed in a lemon vinaigrette… so fresh!

5. CELEBS

I haven’t watched Off Campus yet, but enough friends keep talking about it that I feel like I’m going to have to cave soon! This profile on star Ella Bright explains how quickly her life changed after booking the show. She was planning to pause acting and focus on college before landing the role of Hannah Wells in what became Prime Video’s #1 global series. Apparently she had no idea how massive the book fandom already was until strangers started recognizing her on the London Tube literally a day after the casting announcement! It sounds like every up and coming actor’s dream!

6. FASHION

If you’re in NYC this month and love fashion history, Hidden Treasures at The Shed looks amazing! The exhibit explores 250 years of French-American luxury and cultural exchange, and the lineup is kind of insane: an original Hermès Kelly bag from the 1950s, a pink Givenchy coat made for Jackie Kennedy, vintage Louis Vuitton trunks, early Dior New York designs, and even the iconic Jean Paul Gaultier harness dress worn by Madonna. I’m definitely going to try and check this out!
