CHANEL SLINGBACKS ARE MORE COMFORTABLE THAN THEIR BALLET FLATS

I’ve been a longtime fan of Chanel’s iconic and timeless ballet flats! I still have and use a pair I bought over a decade ago, having resoled them a number of times at Deno’s when I was living in Dallas. They’re a year-round favorite, a solid travel staple, and work for nearly any occasion. While they are comfortable, there’s sometimes a bit of a break-in period with a fresh pair of Chanel ballerinas. Over time they mold to your foot and are truly the best, but I have experienced some rubbing on my pinky toes or along the fabric trim in the past with new pairs. If you’re looking for a stylish, classic flat shoe with absolutely no break-in period whatsoever, I have to say the Chanel slingback takes the cake! I discovered this with my first pair of turquoise + pale blue suede slingbacks 2-3 years ago, and have since not purchased a single pair of ballet flats in favor of this style.

I often hear the argument “slingbacks don’t stay up on my ankle”, but what’s amazing about these is that the strap is supported along the whole length of your foot, and stays up regardless of whether it is loose or fitted. Simply put, they stay on and are SO COMFORTABLE! It’s now my preferred flat shoe style, because of their instant comfort + effortlessly chic and elegant shape. Easy to dress up or down, they look amazing with denim and look dainty with dresses and skirts! I bought this creamy sheer pair earlier this season, and just picked up the new light pink denim pair recently spotted on Hailey Bieber. Pink denim? Who is she?! I never buy pink, but I couldn’t resist. The color is so good and will be such a fun pop for spring/summer!

A friend of mine in Dallas told me she sometimes has the soles lifted/boosted on her Chanel flats, which helps keep them cleaner longer as the fabric is not as close to skimming the ground. I’m definitely going to consider that for my most recent acquisitions since they are lighter in color! I always spray my suede and fabric shoes with a protector spray (this for suede, this for denim, grosgrain, canvas, etc), but the lifting idea seems like it might also be helpful in this situation too.

In summary, both the classic ballerina and the flat slingback are worthy purchases you’ll be able to wear for years and years… but the slingbacks are the ones that have my heart these days! In terms of sizing, I find I’m usually always my go-to size 40 in Chanel flats and slingbacks, but different fabrics can fit differently. I recommend buying in-store at a Chanel boutique or department store if you can, but if you are confident in your size there are plenty available for resale on The Real Real and Fashionphile!!
