1. FASHION
Have you ever heard of Charvet? If not, that’s by design! This ultra-under-the-radar French shirtmaker has been around since the 1800s and has built its entire reputation on discretion, craftsmanship, and bucking trends. No e-commerce, no splashy marketing! Just one store in Paris and a very loyal (and very chic) client base with no plans to expand. It’s the kind of brand you have to seek out, and the entire experience is a study in patience. An appointment for a custom shirt takes an hour and a half, and the turnaround time is three months! In an era of (quite literally) fast fashion, brands like Charvet could be the future.
2. BEAUTY
This article is basically a love letter to all the discontinued beauty products we still aren’t over, and it made me immediately start thinking about the ones I wish would come back! From cult-favorite formulas to entirely discontinued lines, it’s a reminder of how quickly the beauty industry moves and how hard it is to replace something once it’s gone. For me, there are two that still sting: Givenchy’s Base Mascara Perfecto Primer (a holy grail for perfect lashes) and Marc Jacobs Beauty’s Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter (I used to mix it with my foundation for the best glow) — both so good and somehow never truly replicated. It’s funny how certain products just become part of your routine, and when they disappear, nothing quite fills the gap.
3. CELEBRITY
Gwyneth Paltrow is auctioning off pieces from her wardrobe, and a lot of it looks surprisingly normal! Apparently after a fire destroyed her storage unit years ago, she vowed not to rely on external storage and instead periodically purge and auction pieces from her wardrobe to make way for new items. The auction is full of extremely under-the-radar pieces (no Oscars dresses here), just cozy knits, tailored blazers, simple gold jewelry, plus a ton of older G. Label clothing from her Goop brand! My favorite items? A Mark & Graham raffia tote and personalized “Mrs. Falchuk” hat from her bachelorette weekend. Celebrities, they’re just like us (lol!)
4. HEALTH
I feel like I blinked and suddenly collagen is in everything — snack bars, coffee creamers, even sparkling drinks — all promising better skin, hair, and joints! Collagen itself is a protein that helps make up your skin, bones, and connective tissue, but this piece is a good reminder to take the hype with a grain of salt! Experts say it’s not actually a very effective protein for things like muscle building, and it’s not clear that consuming collagen (whether in supplements, foods, or drinks) actually boosts the collagen in your body. It’s not harmful, but it does seem like one of those wellness trends that’s more marketing than miracle!
5. FRIENDSHIP
Even though we’re more connected than ever these days, maintaining long-distance friendships still takes a lot more intention than you think! This piece offers up small tips for nurturing your long-distance friendships — whether that’s scheduling regular calls or finding a way to enjoy shared experiences. I’ve definitely felt this since moving to New York, with some of my closest friends still in Dallas and Austin! It looks different now, but in a way it’s made those friendships feel even more meaningful because you’re choosing to stay connected. I’m heading home for Easter soon and already so excited to see everyone, the visits just hit different when you don’t get that everyday proximity!
6. MOVIES
If you love fashion documentaries, you’ll definitely want to check out Sofia Coppola’s new doc on Marc Jacobs! It follows the creation of his fall/winter 2024 collection and apparently it’s full of interesting tidbits — like the dialogue between Marc Jacobs and Sofia Coppola who reminisce about meeting in the ’90s and their shared influences like Yves Saint Laurent and Cindy Sherman. The doc also clears up some long-standing fashion myths (like the whole “he was fired from Perry Ellis for his grunge collection” narrative… not exactly true), and shows how much of his success comes from instinct, collaboration, and honestly just continuing to make things!
