1. FASHION
If you’ve been watching Love Story, you’ll enjoy this read on the real life story behind Kate Moss’s campaign for Calvin Klein! While the show portrays Carolyn “discovering” Kate Moss from a stack of polaroids, that’s not exactly how it played out but she did strongly advocate for her. Kate Moss’s fragrance campaign for the brand became iconic and changed the trajectory of her career. The stripped down look of the “Obsession” ads would ultimately define the era and usher in the “heroin chic” style of the 90s. I’m learning so much about fashion history through the show…never saw that coming!
2. BEAUTY
Wigs are having a moment, and after sporting one for last year’s Halloween costume I kind of get it! The new question internet sleuths are asking isn’t “did she get plastic surgery,” but “is she wearing a wig?” Wigs are more mainstream than ever, and not just for transformations, but for protection, convenience, and keeping real hair healthy! Wigs come in every shape, size, and price point with some running upwards of $15,000. The hair sourcing, the lace, the construction, the hours of work… it’s true couture-level craftsmanship!
3. CELEBRITY
Like my fellow millennials, I’m thrilled to see Hilary Duff making a musical comeback! This was a fun cover story from Glamour where she talks candidly about where she is now — navigating motherhood, her career, going on tour, and her own creative aspirations. I also liked how honest she was about the less glamorous parts of balancing it all, especially after growing up in such a hyper-managed environment! I honestly can’t imagine being a child star (especially after everything that’s come out over the past decade), but she seems like one of the Disney kids that’s actually thriving. Plus she looks fantastic!
4. TRAVEL
Warning, don’t read this list of the world’s most turbulent flight routes if you have a fear of flying! Whether it’s mountain winds or jet streams near stormy coastlines, it turns out there are some specific places in the world where turbulence isn’t just a bump — it’s practically an expected part of the journey! And with the increase in extreme weather events, turbulence is only getting worse. Reading this article definitely made me appreciate the smooth flights I’ve been on even more, but if you’re a nervous flyer you can actually look up turbulence forecasts for your flight!
5. ROYALS
You guys know I have a soft spot for royal fashion, so I was interested to hear about a new book from the former editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar UK and Town & Country UK called “Fashioning the Crown: A Story of Power and Couture.” I’ve always been fascinated by how much intention goes into what public figures wear — not just the clothes themselves, but the way they signal history, duty, and personality all at once (this is something Elizabeth Holmes talks about often!) Her book touches on royals from Queen Mary to Queen Elizabeth II to Kate Middleton and their sartorial evolutions. Seems super interesting!
6. DATING
Okay this isn’t an article, but a podcast from The Daily this week called “Is the Swipe Era Over?” that I highly recommend listening to! Everyone is exhausted by the apps, including myself. There’s an argument that swiping has weakened our tolerance for real-world rejection, which explains why meeting someone in person feels so intimidating right now! As someone who is single and actively trying to put myself out there IRL, it’s motivating to hear that the solution isn’t a new app — it might just be strengthening that muscle again. Say hi, sit at the bar, go to the thing, risk the cringe! (For the past month I’ve been running an experiment trying to meet someone IRL. I’m sharing more for subscribers in next week’s catch-up!)
