A CHARMED EVENING IN THE WEST VILLAGE

In case you missed it, last week I republished my New York City Travel Guide! The original post is from 2016. In order to keep the SEO intact I couldn’t change the date, so unless you’re subscribed to my newsletter you may have missed the announcement. I figured after nearly a decade it deserved a refresh. Eespecially after how much time I’ve been spending in the city over the last two of them! While not an exhaustive list, the city guide features my favorite restaurants + ones that are at the tippity top of my list to go to next, the best hotels around town, my favorite shopping streets in various neighborhoods and other things to do in the big apple.

I broke the restaurants down by location and as you’ll soon discover, there are some neighborhoods I need to explore more of once I’m in the city full time! Either way, it’s a good resource if you’re planning a trip soon… and I’ll be continuing to update it monthly with the latest and greatest of my discoveries! Click here to check it out, and be sure to bookmark it for easy access to refer back to later.

A NIGHT AT ZIMMI’S

In these photos I’m standing in the doorway of one of the newest restaurants on the list, Zimmi’s! It’s on Bedford, a darling street (and one of my favorites!) in the West Village. Like Little Owl down the block, what it lacks in space it packs a punch in charm. There are four seats at the bar, and probably only 8-10 tables in the whole place! It would actually be a wonderful location to rent out for a small private event like an engagement party or something similar. I adore the classic striped awnings – it’s such an inviting atmosphere! I went with my friend Amedee and we ordered a bunch to share. We went pretty soon after it opened, maybe in November or December? I just remember it being absolutely frigid that night and this restaurant was the cozy respite we needed.

HERE’S WHAT WE HAD

We sat at the bar and split a bottle of red wine before we got to ordering. We selected some smooth country paté, a green salad with goat cheese and walnuts, the ribeye and the tagliatelle with chicken ragout and sage. I remember the tagliatelle literally blowing my mind – the ragout was a white ragout (when it’s typically a red sauce in my experience), which is not something I’m used to seeing on a menu and was so so impressed by it.

So, I now actively seek it out whenever I see it at another restaurant! I also ordered the artichoke soup – ideal for a chilly evening! Everything we ate was delightful and the vibes were immaculate. It’s a fairly seasonal menu except for a few items, so expect whatever you eat to be the best of what’s in season whenever you go! Highly recommend it if you can snag a table or bar seat at this joint!

Check out my New York City Travel Guide for more amazing bites and the best bits from around town!

PS: this scalloped shirt and short look is from Claudie Pierlot, a French brand that is sadly not sold in the US. While I love that I likely won’t bump into other people wearing the same thing, it’s a shame they don’t ship to the states! A double-edged sword, I suppose.
