MERRITT BECK IN A GUEST IN RESIDENCE CASHMERE COBALT SWEATER, SCARF AND BEANIE

Last night I flew back after maybe my shortest ever trip to New York! This trip was mostly what I’d call a “maintenance” trip – I got my hair done, got botox and shot two hours of content with my photographer, Kate! I did get a chance to catch up with some friends and dined at a few new-to-me places (Raf’s + Cecchi’s!), but otherwise I was in and out. While I’m still splitting my time this year, winter isn’t exactly when I’d like to be spending my limited days. Next year I’ll be here for all of it, but for now I’m spending winter in Austin and will be back up in New York starting at the end of April!

It was extremely frigid in New York this week, but I actually wasn’t mad about it… I was able to finally break out these cobalt cashmere pieces I picked up earlier on in the season! Austin has had a pretty mild winter so far this year, so I’ve barely even worn any coats this season. Even though winters in New York can be harsh, at least they actually get to experience seasons! I love being able to layer and cozy up, which I definitely got to do this week. I spotted these blue beauties at the Guest in Residence Pre-Spring 2025 preview, which was my first hint that cobalt would have a major color moment this winter. I started seeing peeks of it in other collections as fall/winter progressed, but I had my heart set on this coordinated look I’d seen at their event. I loved the beanie and scarf right away, but I actually ordered this sweater and this sweater to try and returned them both before ordering the cable shrunken crew. Both were a little too oversized and long for me, but luckily the cable crew ended up being the perfect fit – I also liked the variation in texture between the sweater and the accessories.

As it happens, last summer I also fell in love with these Goshwara earrings, which feature lapis lazuli – a dead ringer for cobalt. I wore this outfit on Monday afternoon/evening and received a number of compliments – I think people love seeing pops of color among the sea of black this time of year. A welcome surprise, if you will!

PS: speaking of the sea, I just finished reading Dead Wake by Erik Larson and was absolutely captivated by his storytelling. Highly recommend if you’re in the market for a new read! Devil In The White City is next on my list…
