West 11th and Greenwich Street in the West Village is one of the most photographed spots in the city! Every day, without fail, you see a number of engagement shoots happening, family photos being taken, or content creators capturing this iconic ivy-covered building. It’s actually in a fairly tough spot to shoot, because the four way stop is pretty busy and the lighting can be a challenge to get just right.
The morning is the best time in terms of traffic, but lighting can be spotty because the sun usually starts hitting the building by 10am… the lighting during golden hour is a real treat, but the pedestrian and street traffic at that time is crazy! Kate and I lucked out the morning we shot these, because there was just enough cloud cover to get somewhat even lighting on both myself and the building. No easy feat that time of day! It’s definitely one of my favorite corners in the neighborhood, and happens to be just steps away from my own apartment building.
Sweater Dress by Karen Millen
Now that you’ve heard a little inside baseball, let’s discuss this sweater dress. I received it as part of a Karen Millen collaboration I shot for Instagram in November, and the second I slipped it on I knew it was going to be an immediate classic in my wardrobe! The fabric is unbelievably soft, and although it’s warm, the fabric isn’t super thick or heavy like a lot of knit dresses. It’s a great piece for winter in New York, when you need to layer up outside but need a more comfortable, lighter layer for heated indoor spaces! I’m wearing the small and it fits like a glove!
The asymmetrical hem adds interest and glides effortless as you walk – I think it looks amazing styled over knee high boots. The ones I’m wearing are old Aquazzura, but these Loeffler Randall boots look nearly identical!
