A LITTLE SKINCARE UPDATE

SKINCARE UPDATE // THE STYLE SCRIBE

It’s been SO long since I shared a skincare or beauty update! I’m definitely not an expert in either area, but I am also such a creature of habit. I rarely try new products or change anything up, so I don’t often have updates worth sharing! With that said, I’m turning 35 later this summer and I have started to make some real changes in terms of my approach to caring for my skin. Over the last couple of years I’ve noticed changes in the tone and texture of my skin – think discoloration and sun spots, bumps under the skin, skin thinning out in certain areas, etc. Initially I thought I wanted to try a laser to tackle these issues, but I chickened out at the last minute. I’ve never done anything more than Botox or a facial, so I’m definitely hesitant to do anything super drastic. I was lucky enough to get some of my grandmother’s genes, including her porcelain skin. Other than the occasional hormonal breakout, I haven’t had many (if any) skin issues or irritations over the years. In the last two decades, I haven’t done much to it, simply because I haven’t needed to! I’ve kept my routine simple stupid, which worked for a long time… but as I’ve started noticing more signs of aging, I decided to overhaul that routine and incorporate some new products about a month ago.

The photos above are not retouched, so I’m feeling pretty good about the changes I’ve made so far! Full disclosure though, I do get Botox injected into my forehead, between my brows, and on the outside corners of my eyes to combat wrinkles and crow’s feet. I go to Dr. Hunt Neuhror here in Dallas every three months for the injections! He’s the best. Aside from Botox, I haven’t had anything more than a facial done to my skin – I’ve never done micro needling, I’ve never gotten a laser treatment or a chemical peel… Maybe one day I’ll try some of those more intense treatments, but for now I’m happy with the progress I’ve made doing these simple tweaks to my everyday skincare routine. Read on to hear exactly what I’m using now and when!

MY CURRENT SKINCARE ROUTINE

My morning skincare routine really starts after I finish my workout. I wash my face in the shower with this Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser – gotta love a drugstore beauty buy! After I’m out of the shower and toweled off, I apply Paula’s Choice Exfoliate with a thin cotton pad, which I like to think of as a mix between an exfoliant and a toner. I initially started using it twice a day, but after a couple of days I noticed some irritation and redness. My skin is pretty sensitive and I’ve never really used acids in my skincare routine, so I decided to switch to using it once a day – that has been the perfect amount! It has salicylic acid in it, which is an ingredient I haven’t used until now and I think is better in smaller quantities on me. I truly believe it’s Paula’s Choice Exfoliate that has been the game changer for my skin. It’s helped reveal a more even skin tone and texture, and I don’t notice the discoloration as much since I started using it!

After I’ve given that a chance to dry for a minute or two, I apply La Mer’s Moisturizing Gel Cream, then follow that up with a mixture of Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Glow Drops and Sun Drops. I’ve always been bad about applying sunscreen every day, so I love that the Sun Drops have SPF 50 in them! It’s such a great consistency too – not at all like regular, oily sunscreen. Once all of that has absorbed into my skin, I’ll apply my makeup for the day. I also want to mention Dr. Lara Devgan’s gummy nutraceuticals, which I have each morning while I’m doing my morning skincare product applications. I purchased her Beauty Bears and Collagen Booster Hearts – they’re basically gummy vitamins that feature skin, hair and nail-boosting ingredients. They’re delicious! I just started eating these a couple weeks ago, so who knows if/when they’ll start to make a difference, but just thought I’d share that!

At the end of the day, I still use my trusty Simple Skincare Cleansing wipes to remove my makeup. I then rinse with water, and follow that with Chantecaille’s Magnolia, Jasmine & Lily Healing Emulsion. Most nights I just end with that, but I’m trying to be better about using face masks before bed too! A few masks I’ve been alternating between include the SK-II’s Pitera Facial Treatment Masks, Foreo’s Youth Junkie Activated Mask, and Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Face Mask Sachet Box. When I ordered the gummy vitamins from Dr. Lara Devgan, I also ordered these masks to try!

That’s about it in terms of my updated skincare routine! Not sure if that was helpful to anyone, but I just figured I’d share since I’m so happy with the results so far.
