THE GREAT BOXY CREW STRIPE T-SHIRT

It’s hard to believe summer will be coming to an end in just a few days, especially since I’m on a big summer vacation of my own! Even though I tend to put away my most summery pieces after Labor Day weekend, it stays pretty hot here in Texas until about mid- to late October. I definitely won’t be getting any use out of sweaters until way later in the season! These next couple months are always sort of a transitional period, when it’s too hot to wear real fall clothes but summery stuff doesn’t work anymore.

I have two typical uniforms for this time of year: either a tee/tank, jeans and a lightweight jacket, or a lightweight dress and a jacket. For daytime I’ll stick to sneakers or flats/ mules, and dress the looks up with heeled sandals at night! I feel like this formula keeps my outfits on track for this point in the season, but weather appropriate while it’s still very warm. If you’re looking to stock up on some transitional staples, I’m rounding up some of my favorites under $150 below! Keep scrolling for some additional tips on transitioning your closet from summer to fall.

TIPS FOR TRANSITIONAL DRESSING

  • SHIFT TO FALL COLORS – Even if it’s too hot to wear heavy clothes, there are tons of cute styles in tops, skirts and lightweight dresses that feature fall florals or rich color schemes that feel seasonally appropriate. A few examples include this, this, this and this. Style with heeled sandals to keep the look feeling light for the hot temps – when the temps drop, switch to ankle boots!
  • SWAP OUT YOUR SHOES – Mules, sneakers and heeled sandals are my go-to this time of year! It’s just too hot for ankle boots until later in October, so open options like mules and heeled sandals keep the looks feeling weather appropriate but not too summery.
  • WHEN IN DOUBT, WEAR NEUTRALS – Mixing and matching with neutrals you already own is such an easy way to make old pieces feel like new! Take your favorite basic summer tees, tanks and simple black dresses into fall with a green utility jacket/lightweight moto jacket. Get style inspo from my past capsule wardrobes! PS: I’ll be releasing a new one for fall later this month…
