THE RETURN OF THE STATEMENT STAPLE

05.25

Back in 2016 I purchased a Victoria Victoria Beckham black ruffle-sleeved tee (also wore it on the blog here!) that instantly became one of the most beloved items in my closet! At the time I just thought it would be a fun, trendy addition, but little did I know how much I would reach for it time after time over the next four years. I remember kicking myself for not also buying it in white before it sold out! I even came up with a new name for this category of clothing in my wardrobe, calling it the ultimate statement staple. I now use “statement staple” to describe any classic, neutral piece featuring a wow-factor detail that takes it from basic staple to statement status. I’ve worn the black ruffle sleeved tee too many times to count – it’s just that good!

So imagine my surprise and delight when I discovered this new season white ruffled sleeve tee (also by Victoria Victoria Beckham) available on MyTheresa! What once was old is new again, or in my opinion, never went out of style in the first place. Naturally, I added this tee to my cart immediately. I love that the sleeve style is slightly different for variety, but still exaggerated and oh so fun. I’m THRILLED to have one in white now! Now you might be thinking, why would I shell out $177 for a t-shirt? Well, let me tell you that the cost-per-wear on a piece like this is extremely low, at least for me. I have absolutely gotten my money’s worth with the black tee, and I suspect the same for this white one! These tees are very high-quality and hold up amazingly well over time, and I can honestly say I’ve worn the black tee about once a month (if not more) between March-October since I got it in 2016. If taking that into account, the cost-per-wear so far has been $5.50. For me, the fact that it has been so useful and is SO cute is a no-brainer! As far as sizing goes, I’m wearing a small in this white tee!

One more item I want to mention in this post is this pair of jeans from GRLFRND denim! I’ve been wanting to try this brand for ages, but it took me awhile to pull the trigger. I’m also such a creature of habit! I wear the same three pairs of jeans over and over again, and have been feeling in a rut in the denim department. I just needed to try something new! I absolutely love this distressed skinny pair I picked up. So much so I’ve just placed another order to try a few more of GRLFRND’s styles! They are all non-stretch, so I recommend sizing up. Mid-quarantine I’ve been a 28 in stretchy jeans, but I took a 29 in these! As you’ll discover when you order them, they’re meant to fit really snug at first and will loosen up with wear. Anyway, I’m a GRLFRND convert! Highly recommend. As with all denim with distressed spots at the knee, be careful about squatting down on the floor while wearing them – it may cause a bigger rip! Take it from someone who has done this before haha!

I can always count on MyTheresa to have the best pieces from my favorite contemporary and designer labels! Below are some additional statement staples for you to peruse/shop!!
