As you guys already know, I have two big cold weather trips coming up in the next couple of months! In just one week I’ll be heading off to London and Germany, and in January I’ll be spending a little over a week in Chicago. You may have heard I’m considering a move to Chicago as well, hence the trip in January to see if I can handle the winter. I have plenty of of nice coats, but they’re all pretty lightweight since I currently live in Texas! Up until this point I haven’t needed anything heavy duty! The warmest coats I have are thick wool, but I really need something that can handle the sometimes sub-zero temps in Chicago (especially if I decide to move there!) and for spending a lot of time outside in London and Germany.

After doing quite a bit of research and chatting with friends who live or have lived in colder cities, I was told Canada Goose was the way to go. I was also told to choose a shorter style (as opposed to the Mystique, which I’d been seriously considering!), because the longer style prohibits longer strides when walking. I also wanted to add some variety since I recently purchased a white puffer that’s midi length already! Gotta have options, am I right? I looked into the difference between the regular and Black Label options, which really only means the patch on the arm is either colorful (regular) or black (Black Label). Naturally, as a fan of neutrals, I opted for the Black Label style! I settled on the Shelburne parka because it looked like the most day-to-night option, and my friend Jess told me it was the most figure-flattering… definitely an important quality to me!

I ended up with a size medium in this parka – I normally wear a 4/6, and wanted to be able to fit the sleeves of thicker sweaters into it. It fits perfectly and is super comfortable! The tailored, streamlined silhouette and fur-trimmed hood give it a luxurious appeal, but it is a very durable choice for maximum protection against the cold. The Shelburne Parka is a 3 on the TEI (Thermal Experience Index) scale, meaning it’s warm enough for everyday use in -4 to 14 degree weather!

MyTheresa has an amazing selection of luxurious down coats from brands like Canada Goose and Moncler, but they also carry more approachable puffers from brands like Nike and Ganni. If you’re in the market for more heavy duty outerwear like I am this season, definitely don’t miss my favorite styles from MyTheresa below! Stay tuned to see how I style this parka on my trip next week… can’t wait to experience London and Germany during the Christmas season!
