FALL/WINTER CLOSET ESSENTIALS

THE BEST FALL/WINTER WARDROBE STAPLES AND CLOSET ESSENTIALS

Earlier this year I did a massive blog post on the best closet essentials, and have since received a number of requests to do a fresh one for the fall/winter season! Ask and you shall receive. This time I tried to focus on more budget-friendly brands, although you will find a few investment pieces in here as well! I also tried to include more size-inclusive pieces in each clothing category.

In addition to the comprehensive selection of wardrobe staples for the coming season you see below, be sure to check out my Fall 2019 Capsule Wardrobe for some fall outfit inspo and budget-friendly classics!

TOPS

Once the temps drop I’m mostly in sweaters, just because it stays hot for so long in Dallas! If you’re looking to buy some new tops though, I’d recommend picking up some soft long-sleeve tees and a couple of sophisticated blouses you can style day to night – linked all kinds of styles below!

SWEATERS

I am of the belief that you should have a good variety of necklines and solid neutrals when it comes to sweaters. Some I like more than others (mock neck and crewneck are my favorites!), but I think it’s important to have options for styling purposes – some jackets and blazers look better with v-necks than they do with crewnecks, and so on and so forth. While getting sweaters with special details like ruffles, stripes, etc can be fun, I’d start with solids to build up a timeless selection first!

JEANS/PANTS

As far as jeans go, I wear my classic blue wash, dark wash and black jeans most! I prefer skinny styles I can tuck into boots or style with heels. I find them the most flattering and versatile (for me, anyway)! I also love a good flare to mix things up. I also linked some great work staple trousers below!

SKIRTS

Skirts are a great fall transition piece, especially in warmer climates! I love styling leather mini skirts with blouses for a night out, and into winter with sweaters tights and boots. I also linked several gorgeous midi styles that are great for work, church or whatever below!

JACKETS

Whether you go into an office every day or not, I find blazers to be incredibly useful in the fall for day or night wear! They are so effortless and chic, and are super easy to style. For more casual occasions, utility jackets and moto styles are also good options. For athleisure and errands, I also included some puffer jacket styles below!

COATS

While I love a good statement coat (like this one!), I am allll about cozy solids for everyday wear. Choose colors you wear a lot of or are easy to pair back to things you already own: for me that’s camel and black. I had a grey Zara coat and just never wore it, but it just wasn’t as useful a color for me! Lots of timeless styles and neutral colors below!

DAYTIME/WORK DRESSES

Because these are “staples” I didn’t include any prints! I tried to keep the color scheme to black, camel, and other neutral colors. Below is a roundup of sweater dresses, casual styles and wear-to-work looks to check out:

PARTY DRESSES

If you’re looking for wedding guest dresses, don’t miss this post! I did a massive roundup last week featuring both budget-friendly and splurge-worthy dresses. As far as nights out or holiday parties go for fall/winter, below are my suggestions! I love anything velvet once the temps drop! I’d suggest snagging an LBD that can be styled different ways for a variety of events throughout the season. This is my favorite one I own from a couple years ago!

BOOTS

I love, love, LOVE boots! It’s definitely my favorite item to invest in for the fall/winter season. While I don’t think you need a million different styles/pairs, I do think having one heeled ankle boot and one flat knee-high or over-the-knee boot is ideal. Both pieces can be dressed up or down!

HEELS

Classic pointy-toe pumps are my go-to! If you live in a warmer climate like I do, you likely will be wearing heeled sandals for the next couple months. See several options for each below:

FLATS

Since I wear sandals all summer long, I love swapping into flats for day-to-day stuff. While mules are great and still on-trend, I prefer the more polished look of a pointed toe flat or ballet flat! I find them to be more useful (work, church, weekend, travel!). Below are some of my favorite styles this season.

BAGS

I rounded up some great designer bags for fall in this post last week, but below you’ll find more budget-friendly finds! Enjoy!
