THE ULTIMATE BEACHWEAR GUIDE // THE VERY BEST SWIMWEAR AND COVERUPS THIS SEASON

03.04

Seeing as I just got back from a week-long beach vacay, and seeing as many of you might be prepping/shopping for spring break or some kind of winter getaway yourselves, I thought it might be helpful to do a comprehensive roundup of the very best styles in swimwear and coverups this season! I’ve portioned it out by budget so you can shop based on the price points you prefer to shop! I even went so far as to separate those items by colorful vs neutral options… there’s literally something for EVERYONE!! Trust me, I’ve covered all the bases. One quick note on pricing – only entire bathing suits that are under $200, $100 or $50 will be featured in those sections. For example, if a top and bottom add up to over $100, they’ll show up in the under $200 section!

Read on to shop my favorite swimwear I wore on my trip to the British Virgin Islands + the full roundup of all the best swimwear and coverups this season at every price point – happy shopping! I’ll be sharing the best beach accessories (bags, sunglasses, etc) in a post next week, so stay tuned.

As I’ve said before (most recently in this big basics post!), while I normally wear neutral in my day-to-day style, I like to get creative with color and prints on vacay! Sure, I have some neutral swimwear items (keep scrolling!), but the summer is when I like to break out my brightest pieces. When I saw this otomi-esque print in January I didn’t hesitate for a second to snag it for myself. Not only is the print so festive and fun, but it’s a really beautiful and flattering silhouette too! My only complaint is that the back cuts in a little bit right near the very bottom, whereas the front is full coverup in almost a hipster-style way. Just kind of an odd fit right in that section! With that said, I’m so glad I kept it – the matching coverup is a great solution for keeping my booty fully covered when I’m walking around and not swimming/laying out. Quick note on sizing – I got a large in the suit (fits perfectly! see the next outfit for a rundown on my usual sizing) and the robe is one-size-fits-most. I’d say the top part of the robe fits me perfectly, but if I try to wrap the entire thing around myself it’s a little more narrow in the hip area.

This was the first swimwear investment I made this year! I really wanted a classic black swimsuit that was both flattering and comfortable. One I wouldn’t have to pull at or adjust, and one I could wear doing water sports on this strip without worrying about popping out in any way. This was my first swimwear purchase from Karla Colletto, and although it’s pricey I am SO glad I made the splurge! It is so pretty on – very figure flattering, even on my curviest bits. I also love that while this swimsuit is a classic silhouette, it features a fun detail in the leopard lace-up trim. If you are looking purely for a fabulous fit and don’t mind paying more for it, definitely check out Karla Colletto’s other styles!! As with all swimwear, I always size up – I kept the US 10 in this one. For reference, I normally wear a 4/6 in dresses, 27/28 in jeans and wear a 34 DD. I also have a long torso, so I always size way up in one-pieces! This sarong is an under $100 piece I picked up by KOS Resort, but it sold out even before I left on my trip! Womp womp.

I actually fell in love with the dress featuring this incredible map print first, but was going to wait to purchase it a little later this spring – especially since I was buying so many new items ahead of this trip… That is until I saw Derek Lam share a photo of this one-piece swimsuit on their Instagram featuring the very same print! Needless to say I swooped in and bought it pretty quickly. I’m still hoping to snag the dress version (I love a midi and wear them constantly during spring/summer), but this one-piece is a must for any travel-lover like myself. In terms of fit, this suit is a little more revealing in the front with a very deep V. The back is an adjustable lace-up style, which is convenient and helpful for attaining the best fit possible. The bottom is pretty full-coverage, although the suit as a whole is a little short-waisted on me. I got a large! It’s definitely a suit that would be ideal for someone with a short torso and probably a smaller chest! Even with that said, I feel like it is a super flattering print and silhouette and I’m so glad I kept it. Such a pretty piece!

My coverup is this button-down tunic by Eberjey, which features an optional grosgrain ribbon to use as a belt! The color scheme is gorgeous and looks great with this bikini I also took on the trip. While the button-down is long, I think it could totally be worn with white jeans this spring/summer too! Just an effortless, relaxed piece.

This outfit is certainly the most wild look from my trip! My mom talked me into getting this one, and I’m so glad she did. The pants and matching cape jacket are very Missoni looking, but for a fraction of the price. I’m not saying they’re cheap, but they look super expensive for not being as pricey as real Missoni! I found all three items from Trina Turk while my mom was visiting me in Dallas at the end of January. The best part about this set is that I can actually wear the pieces individually and not exclusively by the beach! I can’t wait to style the jacket over tanks with jeans/shorts/skirts this spring/summer. The one-piece is such a great color – I love a good orange-red! As far as fit goes, I’m wearing a 12 in the swimsuit – it ran a bit shorter/smaller on me. I’m wearing a 4 in the pants (they ran big on me!) and an XS/S in the jacket.
