As we all know, it doesn’t get super cold here in Texas until around New Year’s Eve. The temps do drop a bit here in the fall (usually right around Halloween!), but we’re used to the 50’s and 60’s as a high compared to the 30’s and 40’s often experienced up north. Chicago is actually going to experience those 30’s during the day as we head into next weekend – so crazy! Not sure I could ever live somewhere that cold… I’m impressed by everyone who lives there year-round!

Anywho, the need for heavy coats really doesn’t come for us in Texas until January and February. So while I do have quite a few substantial pieces of outerwear, I’d say most are actually more light or mid-weight like this new coat I’m wearing here. If it’s in the 60’s I can wear this checked coat with a lace cami or t-shirt, and when the temps drop further I’ll throw on a turtleneck for added warmth. Club Monaco really does the best coats – I have so many of their trenches and regular winter coats in my wardrobe now! I’ve been stocking up for years.

Two other coats I’ve already purchased from them this season include this lightweight trench in black (on sale!!) and this new very thick black coat I tried on in store. With my trip to NYC in December just a month away, I wanted to make sure I had a really warm coat ready to take with me. My New York trip at the same time last year had me a little stunned – only one of the coats I brought was truly warm enough to handle the wind chill. When you don’t live there, you just forget what the cold weather really feels like every day!! Especially when you walk around the city as much as I do when I visit.

This new coat was way heavier than I expected to be and too heavy to wear here at the moment, so I’m going to be excited to finally wear it on that trip next month! It also comes in this pretty grey plaid look, but in classic black I know I’ll wear it repeatedly for years to come. The gold button details add a glam touch that make this coat style an effortless day-to-night pick.. Such a chic wardrobe staple! FYI – size wise, I always wear a small in Club Monaco coats. The perfect fit!

Club Monaco is actually offering 25% off sweaters and sweater dresses until tonight at midnight! I picked up a few myself over the weekend, so see those and some additional picks below:

  • I love how long the lace hem is on this layered sweater! Such a great style for the office or the weekend.
  • Looking for a nice solid staple? Don’t miss this simple ribbed mock neck sweater. I’d get it in Praline – such a good winter white color.
  • This dress isn’t part of the sale but would make an excellent office holiday party option! Under $230.
  • I ordered this sweater for myself – we’ll see if it makes the cut! Just liked the look of the simple neckline.
  • I also ordered this amazing cashmere sweater – the cape detail is insane! More of a splurge and it may not look cute on me, but I’m hoping it does. Love it!
  • Here’s another coat to check out – such a great tailored style! Not on sale, but a wonderful investment that comes in three different colors!
  • This sweater dress in black is a great piece for work! Belt it, add a trench, or pair with fun boots to add some personality.
  • If you love a v-neck check out this one on sale for $69 (and that’s before the 25% off!), or this cashmere style.
  • This shearling trim poncho sweater is a splurge, but so gorgeous!

PS: these white boots are from last year, but I found them on sale at Nordstrom Rack! Such a surprisingly wearable pair – both versatile and a very comfortable heel height. Highly recommend!
