Zurich, Switzerland

OMG, ZURICH! Where do I start?! I literally can’t profess my love for this city more. The charm of this quaint place just radiates from these photos, am I right? One of my favorite things about traveling throughout Europe is taking in the picturesque architecture… and while not all cities have retained their old world feels, Zurich certainly has. I also was so shocked at the brilliant aqua blue hue of the water, not just in Zurich but all of the lakes throughout Switzerland. It truly is this blue in real life! I just figured photos had been heavily edited online, but it truly is so clear and amazing.

Most of these architectural photos were taken from three specific locations, one being my AirBnB! I booked this apartment solely for the incredible view. It was so lovely waking up each morning to such a beautiful scene, and peeking out my window at dusk for a very colorful sunset. It’s very sparsely decorated and definitely needs an upgrade with the drapes, but the view made up for that! I will tell you though, that I visited Zurich during a time people were saying the weather was unusually warm… and it WAS! That’s one thing you don’t really think about when visiting Europe is the lack of A/C. Any other time of year (even June!) would have been perfectly fine, but it was pretty warm in the apartment in mid-August. The only other issue I had was with the noise. The apartment is obviously very central, and nearby to some popular bars and cafes. If I left the windows open at night for ventilation, I heard everything going on outside… for example, drunk people yelling at 3am. If I kept the windows closed, I barely heard a peep but I’d get too hot! Anyway, if you visit from September-June, I think you’d be totally fine in this place without A/C. Just wanted to share in case any of you want to book it!

The other two locations for the landscape photos were at the Lindenhof and up in the Grossmünster Church towers. Both spots offer incredible views of the city from above! Stay tuned for the full rundown on my favorite places to snap photos in The Switzerland Itinerary on A Detailed Destination!

One other place I do want to mention if you’re going to Zurich, is The Dolder Grand. If you’re rolling in cash and are able to stay there, please do and let me know how it is! It’s STUNNING and has the most amazing views. Way out of my price range for traveling solo, but you better believe I went there for happy hour and enjoyed an epic cheese plate with my wine. Even if you don’t plan to stay there, I recommend going for a drink and then grabbing dinner at one of the restaurants nearby the hotel! More on that in The Switzerland Itinerary… Shop the outfit I wore that night and my outfit for the first day of exploring Zurich below!
