If you caught Tried and True on Friday, you’ll know how thrilled I am with this deconstructed denim skirt I picked up during Shopbop’s Big Event sale a few weeks back! While part of me is taken back to the horror of Abercrombie miniskirts of my middle school years (find out why in the video), I am also sort of obsessed with this trend for spring/summer. I rely on jeans throughout the year for creating effortless, comfortable outfits… but in the summer it just gets too damn hot here in Texas to wear any form of pants! Enter the denim miniskirt. With the ease of everyday denim and the breezy comfort of a skirt, you truly get the best of both worlds!
Here I’m wearing it with my favorite lightweight tee and sneakers, but I most recently wore it on Saint Patrick’s Day with a green off-the-shoulder top and suede sandals for a dressed up daytime look. Because you’re basically styling denim like you would with jeans, you can style this skirt with just about anything. While there are plenty of denim skirts out there this season, the fit of this one is the bomb. Since I didn’t want this skirt to be as tight as a pair of jeans would be, I ordered a couple sizes up – I normally wear a 27 in skinny jean styles now, so I ordered the 29 in this skirt. This keeps this skirt from cupping in the back or being too tight at the hips.
Side note: I’ve had a few people ask me about my favorite white t-shirts lately, so here are a bunch of great styles to check out and pad your wardrobe with!
- The tee I’m wearing here is from GAP last year (and no longer available), but I found a few similar styles available to shop now… Check out this David Lerner tee, this similar GAP tee and this MONROW tee.
- For a solid crewneck style, you can’t go wrong with THE GREAT boxy crew. I have this in an ecru color, but would love to pick it up in bright white too!
- If you prefer a more slouchy look, try this Wildfox tee or this scoop neck style by The Hours.
- You know who else makes great tees? Vince. Talk about great wardrobe staples. Check out this tee, this one and this one too.
