This spring I noticed a hole in my wardrobe in the form of the little black dress. I own plenty of midi dresses, but realized I really had no good shorter options for the warmer months of the year! I was hunting for a style I could transition from day to night, as well as something I could wear as is or styled under a jacket/blazer! I ordered a bunch of styles to try from Shopbop and ended up keeping two – this tailored linen dress and this ruched jersey-feel dress. While I haven’t had an opportunity to wear the latter look yet, I’ve already worn the former a number of times! It’s already proving to be a very useful day to night silhouette.

Two details stood out to me when I tried this dress on – the elegant boat neckline and the little waist-cinching fabric tie in the back! I’ve tried a couple of other little black shifts in the past, but have returned them due to a straight silhouette (not my fave) – with the adjustable tie, I can tailor the waistline a little more to achieve an hourglass shape! A very flattering detail, IMO. I’ve styled it with this red cardigan over my shoulders and LOVED that pop of color, but on a more toasty day in Austin I wore it on its own with these sneakers and a little Dior scarf in my hair. It was the perfect look for wearing from errands directly to happy hour! In terms of sizing, I went with the size 4. In addition to being sold on Shopbop, you can find more sizes available here!

One more thing to note – I picked up these Miu Miu sneakers at the beginning of winter and I didn’t find them useful at all during the cold months… but they’re already looking like my go-to sneaker for summer! I was a bit worried I’d made a mistake with this pricey purchase, but the second the temps started rising in Austin they became my new favorite pair. They look so much better with dresses and shorts than they do with jeans (especially the longer styles I’ve been wearing lately), and the Desert Beige color is definitely more of a summer neutral for me. I found these sneakers to run pretty small – I’m normally a 40 and sized up to a 41! These sneakers are also available to shop on FarFetch!
